Wald 870 Hi Rise Cruiser Bike Handlebar (24.5 Inches Wide Chrome 9.5 Inch Rise) – Features
Accessorize your cruiser bike in style with our classic hi-rise handlebar (870). Not as high as the ape-hangers of old (we can still make those too), but you’ll be riding the streets and beachside in the splendor of shiny chrome handles that rise 9.5 inches above your stem. The 870 handlebar features a 1 inch center cross-section, is 24.5 inches wide, and 9.5 inches tall.

Wald 870 Hi Rise Cruiser Bike Handlebar (24.5 Inches Wide Chrome 9.5 Inch Rise) – Reviews
The 9.5″ rise above the handlebar stem makes for a more comfortable up right riding experience. These “ape hanger” style bars are the bomb for your fat tire boardwalk cruiser!!

I am an avid cyclist but after an accident I was having severe pain and numbness in my wrists and hands. Rather than purchasing a cruiser style. yuk no gears. I decided to try a new handlebar. After quite a bit of research I decided on the Wald 870. It is the perfect height for comfort on mountain bikes. PERFECT. It’s kind of an interesting look, so i just stripped all the decals off and put on some pen striping to give an art funk look. Back to riding daily and loving every minute.

If you want conventional cruiser handlebars, I’d wager these are too small for your taste. However, these bars were the same width as my outgoing MTB handlebars, but these are cruisers in a Zen sense. With these bars and new street tires, my 20-year old budget mountain bike is suddenly 20 times more relevant to daily life and a lot more comfortable, and a lot more fun. Yes you need longer brake/shifter cables. Yes, the old handlebar grips, brake and gear shifters themselves migrated. Yes, I could take these into the local bike shop, and have them do the work with other basic service needs, for a reasonable cost. Gotta support the local economy. What I didn’t expect was the bike shop owner (Peformance Bicycles, San Mateo) would know exactly what I had in mind when I walked in with my bike and these handlebars. I’ll post a couple pics soon (I hope). For an article about a rider who did a conversion like this back in 2003, here’s an interesting writeup (I’m not affiliated, but the picture conveys the concept). [...]
