The Wald 582 sets the standard for ingenuity when it comes to rear baskets. These baskets are great! They fit securely onto almost any rear rack on your bicycle, and each one can hold a traditional paper grocery bag. A great excuse to get some excericise while grocery shopping.

They fold up properly when not in use. The only grouse I have is that they should supply some type of release mechanism so they can be removed more easily – or without tools (but on second thought, someone can pinch them more easily!).

This basket is reasonably sturdy and the quality of the gloss black finish is excellent. The folding design works well. It looks as if it would rattle like crazy when you’re riding with it folded, but thanks to the tight retention hooks, it’s quite solid. The basket’s nicely sized for grocery bags.

The downside here is the same as with the other Wald products I’ve tried: The mounting hardware is appallingly out of date. It’s English, not metric, and Wald doesn’t use locknuts, only lockwashers attached to the screws (where they are useless). This is less of an issue here than it is for the other Wald products, because this one doesn’t attach directly to your bike, only to the rack. Go out and buy some locknuts and you’ll have no problems.

Alas, the mounting clamps are too small to fit the fatter tubing used on many modern racks. You’ll probably have to use the Wald rack (or some other old-school, inexpensive rack). And that rack is well-built and sturdy, but its mounting hardware ha

These are great. I use them all the time.You can use just one to carry things. It will not make the bicycle unbalanced.But you must have a rear rack to attach the baskets.

I love these baskets. They’re fairly easy to install (you may have some minor problems, depending on the type of rack to which you’re attaching them or if you don’t have tiny fingers), and once they’re on, they’re super easy to open and collapse. I use them as a commuting teacher and can get plenty of my work material in the baskets. I really appreciate the metal clip that holds the baskets together close to the rack when you’re not using them – it’s a clip that you can open with one hand, and maybe even close with one hand if you’re strong enough.

They do rattle a bit, but that’s the result of them being a collapsible metal basket. Instead of using the U-brackets included with the baskets, I used plastic zip ties (as suggested by other users) to fix the bottom of the baskets to my pannier frame – a much simpler solution than trying to get the U-bracket to fit over the odd angle of my particular frame. Again, as suggested by others, I would make sure you have bungee cords or nets available to hold things in that risk bouncing out during rides over uneven pavement or brick/cobblestone surfaces.
