Touring North Road Handle Bar Alloy – Reviews
Replaced my old road bars with these new ones, got a taller stem, and I’m back in business. Lightweight, sturdy, and a good price. Highly recommended..

I was restoring a 1980 Schwinn Suburban women’s bicycle with bent handle bars. I searched for days and lots of websites and local bicycle shops and couldn’t find any handle bars like the originals. The one’s I did find that were close to the originals were $45.00 to $70.00. When I found these they looked like the originals and the measurements closely matched the OE bars and the price was grate THEY WERE AN EXACT MATCH EXCEPT FOR BEEING ALUMINUM. A good quality item well worth the money.

These handlebars make very nice replacements for the old steel type North Road handlebars which are standard equipment on vintage 3-speeds. These won’t rust and it also makes changing handlebar grips a lot easier.

I’ve been riding mountain bikes on the bike trail for many years now. Lately it has occurred to me that a mountain bike is very uncomfortable to ride and it need not be so when riding bike trails. So, I’ve been modifying my stock mountain bike into more of a comfort or touring bike. I added a more comfortable seat and a rear rack in addition to the handlebars so far.
The downside is that I had to install longer brake cables. Everything else, including the sram shorty shifters fit just fine. I took my bike for a little ride (no brakes yet) and it was amazing how different it felt. I was upright at last! I bought one of these for my wife’s Schwinn Clear Creek as well. We’re hoping that the new bars cure our numb hands.
The bars are also very light and the finish is good. I think I will also add a fender set and possibly a chain guard. I’m only 31, but I’m old enough to know what I want and not care much what people will think when they see me on a bike that doesn’t look like was in the Tour de France. No one really rides those racing bikes anyway. All right, a few do. As for me, my wife, and most everyone I know, we ride the bike trail and my bike is now one step closer to being the perfect trail bike.
The handlebars were also very cheap. Other handlebars like these went for more than fifty dollars. I’m all for supporting companies that pay their employees well, but the bike originally cost less than two hundred. I couldn’t see spending that much money on handlebars.
