The Topeak MTX Trunk bag EX was my second try at a Topeak Bag– the RX trunk bag was just ridiculously small. This bag is merely too small. There is room for a lunch, a small tool kit, your keys, wallet and cellphone, and that’s about it. Forget about trying to cram a windbreaker or a fleece vest in there. The zinger is that while you may be tempted to cram, the zipper is far too delicate for me to have confidence that it will take any abuse whatever. Caveat emptor.

I’ve had this bicycle trunk for a couple of years now. In concept, it’s great. A place to put the miscellaneous stuff you need while riding (a toolkit for on-the-spot fixes, bike locks, and the like) plus fold away panniers for carrying bulkier stuff. The problem comes down to the size of the panniers. They are analogous to those little “waste bins for your car” they used to sell at car washes. Cute, sure, but very limited in capacity. I use my bike for grocery shopping. If I have more than two plastic grocery bags of groceries, forget it. I have to ride home with half the stuff in the panniers and the other half on one arm.
Unfortunately, as another reviewer has noted, the use of this trunk precludes supplementing it with a grocery bag pannier.
I’d suggest that Topeak consider redesigning the rack to allow the use of a supplemental set of panniers with another bar to hang the other pannier from.
Also, the comment on the problems with the zipper, at least as far the main compartm

The bag extends over the sides of the rack, so you are out of luck using this with shopping bag panniers.

i kind of wish i had bought the bigger bag but thats OK with Topeak it is so easy to switch out if i buy the bigger one it is easy to use both as needed this is a must have for any biker that is going the distance
