Shimano SH M161 Mountain Bike Shoes Mens – Features
If mountain bike trails were static and flat, they would be called roads. Therefore, when you are actually riding your mountain bike on mountains, you should strap in with a shoe that can match the terrain. Shimano’s M161 has a tough, armored synthetic upper and a shock absorbing EVA insole to protect your feet as you plummet. The M161’s sole is made with a reinforced carbon shank plate to keep your feet feeling firm and stiff and optional toe spikes will help offer traction in sand or dirt. fan of quality products

I had a couple of pairs of inexpensive and “spongy” MTB shoes, and decided to try an upgrade to these shoes a couple of months ago. The shoes fit great out of the box, and were very solid feeling on my feet. The ratcheting strap is really nice, and useful if one needs to adjust the tension while riding. However, on the bike (where it counts), these shoes canted my feet such that my outer edge of my foot was too low and inner too high. I only rode 15 miles on them, and my knees were protesting very loudly. I tried adjusting the cleat and loosening the pedal tension, but the canting couldn’t be adjusted without buying some overpriced SPD wedge shims that fit under the cleat. I was able to return these shoes to my local bike store, fortunately. However, to this day I still am fighting a bit of knee pain, which probably won’t heal completely until the offseason.Neither of my other shoes exhibited this “tilted” feeling. I’m not sure if it was a design issue or a manufacturing defect on these shoe, or perhaps it’s just my anatomy. I’ve since bought a similar pair of Specialized MTB shoes at a comparable price point to these, and they don’t have any problems. But I was disappointed that the Shimanos didn’t work out for me.

Good stiff shoe, straps are dependable, it is cool and fits a wide range of feet. It doesn’t fall into the “narrow” category of shimano shoes so wider feet should fit fine. The sole is great, super grippy and even though its stiff, its easy to walk in.My biggest complaint is that this shoe is heavy. It is astonishing how much it weighs. For this $$$, I would think they could get the weight down a little bit.
