This computer is really cool in that the display is good and it tells you all kinds of data. However, if you hit a solid bump in the road it falls off! Mine fell off going down a hill at 25mph and it took me 15 minutes to find it. To my surprise it still worked. A couple days later I hit another bump going 30mph and it fell off in such a dangerous traffic situation I just kept going. I’m done with this computer.

I had owned a number of Cateye Enduro 8 bike computers before checking around to see if I could find one which showed multiple functions on one screen. The Protege 8 does exceedingly well with all important information displayed in a easily viewed main screen. It also is easy to reset your trip information with just one push of the bottom button. And the whole computer detaches easily from the holder with just a push from the top.
The wiring is as heavy duty as the Cateye and the speed sensor is much heavier duty. Installation is straight forward and calibration for unusual size tires is clearly explained. And the price for the unit is very competitive. I’ve been so pleased with the Protege that I bought another one for my wife’s bike.

I really like this piece of equipment. Everything is laid out nicely and switching modes is a piece of cake, just a push up on it. I haven’t had problems with it falling off like others to be honest. I wish it came in black. My only gripe were the instructions. They said to put the fork sensor on the rear of the forks but i wasnt getting a reading at all. I had to turn it to the inside of the fork which made the magnet line up perfect. Don’t go by the picture. Awesome fast shipping by amazon too! Woulda bought the protege 9 i guess if i wanted a temp gauge but that wasn’t necessary.

I’ve own this product for about 6 years now and it has been the best in quality, reliability and durability. Best part about this product is that it will monitor two bikes, which is great now that I have recently purchase a full suspension MTB last summer. Plus when the battery dies, I can reset to original mileage of both bikes after installing the new battery. It survived rough trail riding, heavy rainfall and cold weather with ease. Changing from one bike to the other can be somewhat a hassle without the use of a ballpoint pen or other pointed object. Installation is easy for me as I distroyed a few computers before purchasing this Planet Bike product.
