First, let me say that I love my new bike computer. For only $[...], it’s definitely worth that price.

Second, I hope to shed some light on this computer. First, the same computer seems to be marketed in different forms by other manufacturers.

It seems to be very similar to the Raleigh 16 function ARC005 Cordless Computer (although this one isn’t cordless; I can also not find any on-line manual for the Raleigh ARC005, either) and the RavX TaxTix 2 Wireless 14 function bike computer.

This was hitting the jackpot, because it has an on-line manual at [...]

In it it explains the Schwinn’s mysterious undocumented ‘Maintenance Program’ function.

In its manual it says, “Maintenance Program – Maintenance Program notifies you to replace parts or lubricate the chain after the preset distance is reached. Right after KM/Mile selection, the perset total distance of 800 km (or miles) will falsh, press RIGHT button to select between 200, 400, 600 or 800km (or miles) and press LEFT button to co

the only reason this is not getting five stars is because i need to ensure the longevity of this speedometer.

but the pertinent features of this speedometer– like speed and distance– work quite well.

Installation is easy and securing the stage to the bicycle itself is simple. Parts and such seem sturdy.

The instrument’s speeds and distances are not only accurate, but precise– computer measures thousandths of miles! An interesting feature is that the computer seems to know when you are walking beside your bicycle– when i walked beside the bike through a hallway it only registered distances in hundredths of miles instead of thousandths and didn’t register a speed in mph even though it recorded these small distances.

The thermometer works well but is slow to register accurate temps, at least in the summertime (range minimum is 32 F– pretty lousy). But this, the calorie and fat burning calculators are all frivolous features which have nothing to do with the speedometer’s cent

$10 you can’t get better deal from brand name. Installation takes 10-15 min for first timers. It has so many features for different purpose. You can’t go wrong unless you want to add $10 and get wireless one from Bell.

When you set this thing, its best to measure the outside circumference of your tire using a tape measure then convert this to mm for the “wheel factor”. For example Bontrager 700 x 35C tire has an outer diameter of 2197 mm.

If you try to cheat this by multiplying pi times twice the outer radius you will get an error that will very quickly accumulate even on short rides (I observed an -11% error with both the speed and distance traveled).

Once this is set, decide on km/hr or mph and fill in the rest of the setup. Afterwards, take the bike on the road for a few miles then check with Google Maps or your car’s odometer to see if your distance traveled is reasonable. That is how I was able to determine the distance error.

The calorimeter is off by -25% on average. You’re best off using the formula:

CalBurned = Hours x 60 x (-55.0969 + (0.6309 x AvgHeartRate) + (0.1988 x Weightlb x 0.45359237) + (0.2017 x Age) )/4.184

Cyclocomputers – Reviews

I purchased this computer when the price dropped to about 70 dollars. Compared to prices at local shops of about 89-99 dollars, this was a great deal. The computer is simple to install. The sensor takes some fiddling with to get both magnets to read properly, but once you find the sweet spot it works seamlessly. If looking for a wireless computer with cadence, this is a great buy!!

Flipper

Great product ! I took the time to read the instruction and check out the parts. Then it was 1 2 3…. I think the most important thing to do is assemble with the zip ties loose at first ,so the crank, spokes and sensors will all align within spec. Not really hard to do . I really like the large numbers, easy to read even with RX glasses shaking around . Flipping though the functions happens with a solid click, feels high quality. Updates for speed+cadence take about a second. So far there haven’t been any breaks in communication form other signals, but i don’t ride in a pack anymore . 100 miles and the best looking and functioning cyclometer I’ve owned!!!

M. Carson

I like this computer overall but there are some things that you should consider. The wireless transmitter is located on the rear frame chain stay. On my Giant FCR2 the frame swells in size toward the rear hub. This makes it very difficult to mount the transmitter as it pushes it very close to the spokes. Also the tolerance is VERY close to the magnet on spoke. So there is really on a small margin of space on the Giant bike frame. Realio you have to mount the transmitter and a magnet to your crank arm using cable ties…not the most elegant solution and also a magnet to your spoke using a integrated clamp.

Second the Cateye LED head lamp I have caused the computer to stop working when I had it located on the left side of the handlebar (same side of bike as wireless transmitter) however I moved it to right side and it seems to work ok. Not enough time to know for sure. Strange as both are by Cateye! Also unless you have very good eye sight the display text is VERY small. I like the f
john

Pretty much tool-less easy set up. the best part is that the one one, rather large, unit that relays the cadence and speed/distance does everything from the rear chain stay. This is great if you want to use this on an indoor trainer. As others have said, the readout is pretty small for anyone with less than perfect eyesight. I wear +1.25 readers and cannot clearly see the second line of the readout without my glasses. It would seems like a simple software fix to offer larger fonts or a hardware fix to have a maginifyer you could stick on top of the screen. My fix is to wear the $15 plastic safey glasses that have a +1.25 bifocal diopter. They come in clear and tinted and look relatively stylish.

This little beauty really works well and is inexpensive! It has just the right number of functions and they are logically arranged to easily select while riding. The display is large enough for me to read even without my glasses! It took about twenty easy minutes to install and test on my bicycle.

Pauline Badgley

I can’t complain. It works just fine. Just keep in mind the error in the instruction manual. To reset the trip odometer (DST function) only hold the left button down for 3 seconds. If Bell eventually makes the correction in their manual, there shouldn’t be any complaints concerning this item. The item is small yet easily readable. The scan option is great while you’re riding so you don’t have to press buttons to view various functions. For around $12.00 what’s there to complain about?

A. Sather

Such a good deal on this little gadget – Very easy to install – Just make sure the face of magnet on the pieces (one provided little magnet to be clamped on the bike spoke 1/4 inch from the v-cross, the other is just the end of the unit itself to be tied to the front fork) are positioned as closely as possible without touching each other. Refer to the pamphlet for operations functions which are so simple to use. I had the unit on my bicycle for a few months out the sun, rain, etc., and many rough rides, it’s still working like a charm. I highly recommend this product. Have fun and good luck.

Greg Hutchens

My needs were simple and this appeared to meet them. I wanted a clock with distance, speed and average speed. I got that and more, for the first few rides.

At first the only problem was the instructions to reset the trip counters resets EVERYTHING. I see others have gotten the trip reset to work holding down the left button; I’ve tried but it doesn’t work on mine. Unlike some others here, I’ve had no problem with the display falling off.

But the second weekend it stopped working. The display turns on if I press the button and the clock works, but it doesn’t detect wheel motion anymore. Do not buy this.

Cyclocomputers – Reviews

I bought this product to add a cadence measurement for my everyday riding. I have an older BC 8xx series from about 6 years ago. Sigma still uses a similar two contact system that is in most of the older mounts. This computer twist attachment system is rubber vs plastic of the older models. The new BC1609 doesn’t fit well into the older mounts, but the old computer fits very well into the new mount. It does fit but takes a bit of angling and force. The cadence sensor plugs into two contacts on top. In all, the device has five contacts. The extra contact is used to keep track of bike-2.

To use the two bike system, you will need to specifically buy the bike-2 mount. The speed sensor is wired into asymmetric contacts towards the lower back of the device. I have an older sigma mount, but it only activates the bike-1 statistics. I can see how you can modify an old sigma mount into the bike-2 mount by moving the electrical contacts so that the sensor connects to the asymmetric contacts. I

I have used Sigma bike computers on all of my bikes for the last ten years. I really like them. Since I ride in every month of the year and at night, I wanted a bike computer with illumination and a temperature sensor to display the current reading as I ride. I purchased the BC1609 in December 2010 and am very happy with it. There is a wireless version of the 1609 computer but it cost twice as much and doesn’t include the cadence sensor. For my riding, I’ll trade price over wireless any day. The illumination activates with a touch of a button and displays for a few seconds at a time to save on battery. Cadence is new to me. I’ve started using cadence for the first time and really love it. This model has the most features per price than any other bike computer I looked at. I give it two thumbs up!

Sandra K. Wahlgren

My previous bicycle computer does not even compare to this Sigma. I’m glad I went with wired this time. My previous wireless was not even close to the accuracy of this computer. I’ve compared both of their computations up against my Garmin and online maps. The Sigma is extremely accurate all around, and my wired (another big name brand) fails. The temperature reading is even accurate. The price is a bargain. I only wish that it had an on/off button. There really needs to be better instructions concerning the on/off automatic feature and how long it continues to run before shutdown, or the best state for the unit to ensure shutdown. The auto shutoff feature is great, but an on/off button also would be nice to preserve the battery.

T. DeVeau

I have always used a computer with the cadence feature, and this computer fit the bill for my mountain bike. I like the cadence feature because I want to keep my pedaling at a certain range – usually between 70-80 revs/min. I have found this to be MY
