Cateye Vectra Wireless CatEye`s entry level wireless computer. With 5 functions and one large button, it comes standard with one mount for both stem and handlebar set-up. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. I bought a Cateye Vectra Wireless last spring for myself, and used it through the biking season. I enjoy it immensely, so I decided to buy one for my daughter’s boyfriend when he got into commuting by bicycle. I have never had a cyclometer before. Once you figure out where to mount the two parts, it is simple to use. You can easily remove the readout portion from your handlebars and take it with you if you worry that someone might steal it when you chain your bike somewhere (although it wouldn’t do them much good without the sensor, would it?). When you are riding, it is very easy to switch between modes for the different readouts (time, odometer, speed, etc.). I like the fact that you can measure the mileage for your trip, and the total mileage. The Cateye Vectra is easily installed (about 20 minutes), easily set-up (one set button on back), and provides quick instant feedback for your ride. I am a beginning rider, and so I don’t need GPS or a “smart” odometer. Knowing my speed, distance traveled, and average speed is great for me. The numbers are large enough to read, and the low price makes this an easy deal. i really like this computer. I had a cateye before I purchased this one that had so many settings that I could not remember how to use them. I had to keep the instruction book where I could find it at all times just to operate it. This simple cateye is just want I want…it’s easy to use and gives me all the information I need for by rides. I bought this easy-to-install and not so easy-to-read wireless computer despite its bare bones features; I’m a tourist and not training for the Olympics. What I didn’t expect is how easily it jammed up. Sweat and grit got into the slides holding it to the mount almost immediately, making it very difficult to wrestle off the bike. Salt built up in the mode switch, too, which jammed it — and since the unit is hard to get off the bike, I wound up breaking the mount (a year in, to be fair) in my perpetual battle to separate the computer from the bike so I could fiddle with the jammed mode switch. I expected better engineering than this from Cateye. Surely their engineers realize that the position of a computer guarantees that it will get perspired on –and in our dry Southwestern climate, the sweat dries out almost immediately. Once I get a replacement mount, I’ll put some grease on the slides and see if I have better luck unmounting the unit. I can’t figure out what to do about the jamming mode switch beyond frequent washing. I didn’t have these problems with other computers I’ve owned; the Vectra has been a disappointing purchase.
