Blackburn MTN 1 Bicycle Rack – Reviews

I’ve had this rack since late May and it does the trick on my mountain bike. It held up well on an 80+ mile bicycling trip hauling perhaps too much gear. This rear rack is well built and seems much more sturdy compared to some less expensive bike racks.

My only complaints would be about the included hardware. After bending and attaching the rack’s connectors to the frame, the nuts holding the screws in place wanted to slip out of the connector’s slots. I had to find and use some washers to remedy this problem. Works perfectly now. I also wish they would have included a couple extra pieces. I tightened 1 of the 2 hex screws too much and it broke. I had to use of the leftover buttonhead screw instead. It’s the same size and is holding up well thus far.

All in all, I would highly recommend this economical rear bicycle rack.

After buying a mountain bike recently, the first thing I wanted to add to it was a Blackburn rack. I carry lots of stuff on my bike most of the time, and on past bikes (which were both stolen, unfortunately), the Blackburn was the perfect luggage rack.

Strangely, after going to several bike shops in Contra Costa County, the one thing none of them seemed to carry in stock was the Blackburn mountain rack! Why that is, I don’t know, but I knew I could find whatever I wanted on Amazon. The price of the rack was right, and it arrived within a couple days. VERY easy to mount to my bike. It took less than 15 minutes.

The rack looks good, and the solid center helps somewhat to prevent the dreaded “skunk-stripe” you can get on your behind from riding your bike through water! ;D It also works perfectly with the pannier side-packs I use when I’m carrying even MORE stuff! It’s a solid, sturdy, USEFUL product, which is why I keep going back to the Blackburn brand.

I looked around at a few different racks for my Trex hybrid. I friend of mine finally recommended this one to me and I’m glad he did. It’s sturdy and easy to put on the bike. I purchased a cargo net with it and put my xtra large backpack with laptop on and it handles the load without a problem for a 7 mile commute.

I bought this product firstly to battle having a wet butt on my way to work on wet days. It does a pretty fair job of this. Fenders still work better for the task of keeping you dry, but this better fit my needs. The MTN-1 feels very stable thus far. I haven’t used it to carry too many things yet, but it handles a milk crate full of heavy groceries with easy.

Mounting the product to my bike was fairly easy. My bicycle was made from the factory with attachment points that all lined up well.

The only thing I wish was different about it is that it would look better if it sat an inch or two higher on my bike frame. I ride an Alpha- Campus with 26 x 2 tires and a 20″ frame. It seems that if I wanted to install a rear fender, the fit would be a bit tight.

Overall, a great product!
