TL/DR :: Finally, a helmet mountable light I can scream about !!! I use the Flea for observing the drive train, and glancing to see what gear I’m in while commuting at night – works perfectly. It is utterly superior at putting a lot of light in the direction my head is pointing. The 3 hours run time/1 hour+ charging time fit my usage patterns just fine.

READ MORE :: I saw a guy who posted a rather elegant, and truly brilliant helmet mounting solution on Flikr (just search for “blackburn flea flickr”). It was exactly what I was looking for, although, it required a permanent mount to the helmet and surgery on the USB adapter. I wanted a minimalistic solution : I simply used a piece of adhesive velcro to side mount the Flea like Locutus of Borg (it mounts near my right ear). I aimed it so when I look at my feet, the Flea points right at them, but the velcro would allow me to aim it backward in flash mode for a safety feature, if I was so inclined.

Have not had the opportunity to try the solar charger yet but the USB charger is easy to use. Easy to mount on a helmet-

The Flea hasn’t given me trouble yet. It’s charging system is cool, I use the solar panel that’s greener than expensive bulkier batteries. It works well for most commuters, however I wouldn’t want to rely on it if I were to go mountain biking in the dark or x-country riding.

I bought this as a Christmas gift because I love my flea headlight so much. It puts out a lot of light for such a tiny thing. It lasts over an hour in the flashing mode. I do have a brighter headlight that I use if I need a headlight to light my path. I use this one mostly in dim conditions because the flashing mode makes me more visible to drivers. The steady mode also puts out a lot of light — definitely sufficient for 12 mph. I prefer my HID light for faster travel at night. I absolutley love the USB charger. I wish there were more products that used it. It would be perfect to charge my bluetooth headset. Instead I have a USB cable that takes more space in my bag. It is so clever the way the flea charges through the magnetic contacts. I was disappointed to receive a flea headlight with a black button on top. I had one of those a long time ago that stopped working, but I returned it and received a flea with a white button on top. The white button has an LED indicato
