Quality is fine. the “anti-rattle” bolt is time consuming when installing and removing the rack from the hitch. It is ok if you leave the rack attached to the hitch. It would be better if it came with a quick release pin system.

This product is made from a high quality material, versatile on holding the bikes, good looking and the price is even better but in my opinion needs to be improved to became a five star one; it doesn’t fit properly in the std receiver and keeps moving too much on the road.
I would sugest the designers put some device that helps to fit better in between the std receivers and the mount rack to avoid excesive movement.

This is a reliable and secure rack. I think it might get a little crowded with three bikes but it works great with two bikes. I use it with a 2 inch reveiver and I haven’t been able to solve the small wobble problem. I think the problem is more visual than actual. I have helped it by adding a couple of large washers. It wouldn’t be an issue at all if I used the bolt that is included but I like the added security of a locking pin when leaving it on the car for a few days. The straps work well and are easy to fasten. The rack swings down easily for access into the rear door of my Subaru Forester. I would recommend this to a friend.

I just got back from family vacation, and was very pleased with my new bike rack. The bikes went on very easily, and were very secure the whole trip. I did make two modifications to the rack. Since I wanted to use my locking 5/8 inch hitch pin, I drilled out the small hole in the rack to fit the pin. I also wrapped a few pieces of electrical tape around the insert on either side of the hitch pin hole to reduce the wobble a little. Overall am very satisfied with the product.

This product is easy to use, and very durable. Works great with my 4-bike Allen rack.

Works great for holding the bike on the rack. But it can be a pain… literally! Due to the spring tension and the funky retention pin, if you aren’t careful you’ll get your hand pinched. This is because you have to stretch the bar against the tension and then insert the pin. If you slip it will snap back with a lot of force. If your hand is in the way then… OUCH! The same can happen when removing the bar. This is probably guaranteed to happen to you at least once. Don’t worry, you will heal in a day or two. From then on you will pay very close attention and it should not be a problem.

We purchased two of these adapters and they did not perform well.
One of them showed up with the retaining clip broken. Come on, now…how can it leave the compant without a little quality control? I would have returned it in second, but we were late leaving Disney for our return trip home.
We bought these with the intent of putting our bikes on a Swagman hitch we bought for our camper. After trying to fix the retaining clip with some zip ties, we mounted them on the hitch.
After the first stop, 75 miles up the road for gas, I checked the bike rack to find one of the adapters bent at a 30-45 degree angle. It was installed on the bike correctly AND the bike was quite light in weight. Due to our itinerary we had to press on with our trip. The next day, after a gas stop, I found the other adapter bent and the handlebar retaing nuts all scratched up.
We have since completed our 1500 mile trip from FL to TX and will NOT be buying this product again. I would advise against purchasing

This is the one you want. For about $20, you can attach a woman’s, child’s, or youth’s bike onto a standard hitchmount bike rack – and effectively place it on the rack as if it were a men’s bike. We just used two of these on a 3000+ mile trip. Worked flawlessly. Without these, mounting my wife’s and son’s bikes would have been impossible on our Yakima rack. When I needed a 3rd, I had to pick one up locally. Unfortunately, the Allen model wasn’t available and I paid 50% more for another brand that works half as well.

Highest recommendation.

We were very pleased with this bike rack. There was very little movement of our bikes even with freeway driving. The down side was that we only were able to use it for less than 24 hours. On the second day of usage we were stopped at at stoplight with our bikes on the back of our car. We heard the loud screeching of tires and my husband looked in the rear view mirror and saw the back end of a pick up truck heading for the back of our car. The pick up truck driver was not paying attention and had been going so fast that he did a 180 degree turn when he hit his brakes before hitting our car. Our bikes were crushed but they were still attached to the bike rack which was bent but still holding on to the trunk and to our bikes. The bikes and bike rack cushioned the blow and prevented us from getting hurt at all. The bike rack stayed firm. The trunk of our car was pushed in and crumpled where the padded contact points of the bike rack were but the bike rack still hung on. We are about to

I have an Acura RSX and this bike rack wasn’t stable or secure on the back at all. Compatability guide said it fit, but didn’t really fit too well.

The rack took about 10 minutes for initial set up and is quite sturdy. It also folds down small enough to store in my trunk without taking up much space. I have not yet had 2 bikes on the rack, but it is very stable with one. It also seems to have much better “padding” in the areas that rest on the car than the cheaper rakes that I have seen. After purchasing several other racks that would not accommodate my bike’s frame (15″ men’s trek), I was relieved when my bike fit without a problem. It would be helpful if Amazon included a link to the list of vehicles that the rack fits. I had to spend a good amount of time searching various other websites to ensure the rack would fit my car (Toyota Avalon).

I used this rack to transport my bikes on freeways and through the hilly streets of San Francisco. The rack stay secured through all the bumps and rattles with zero damage to my car. I used the rack for 2 bikes, but it definitely has enough room for 3 if loaded properly. However, I would be concerned about the combined weight of 3 bikes because the rack is only held on by nylon straps. 3 light bikes would be no problem, but definitely look at sturdier racks if you plan on loading 3 heavy bikes such as steel frame mountain bikes.

Finally after a little over a year of owning this item, I am writing a review. I use if for two adult bikes on my Mazda which has a spoiler. The design of the rack does not allow for a lot of clearance over the spoiler by the two small metal braces. When I add the bikes, the rack is sitting just barely over the spoiler and when I go over bumps the rack damages the spioler and chips the paint off. Not only that, the rubber padding leaves a mark on my trunk. I wish I spent more money and got a better product. It depends on the car and the weight of the bikes you are trying to transport. If you have a car like the audi TT that is pictured you wont have issues with the metal braces. Transporting three bikes would be not be advised.

For around $50, you won’t find an easier rack to place on your car nor one with this quality. Anyone using this style of rack will need to use bungies or other mechanisms to make sure you bikes don’t turn into each other or the car and scratch. It’s the nature of the beast. I have a Mazda 3 Hatchback. Had to attach bottom to the ‘tow hooks’ under the car since the bumper is plastic. Thankfully the straps were long enough!

I used the site’s drop down list to be sure it would fit my car and it does, nicely. I haven’t yet tried carrying more than one bike, and while it appears to be well made and up to the task—it just looks like a tight fit for three bikes. Once fitted to the car, it’s an easy on, easy off operation. I like it.

I bought this rack to replace a Thule Ridgeline. We had the Thule for three years, and sometimes we had to do crazy things to get the kids’ bikes on, but you expect that to some extent with any rack. After three years, the nut on the Thule that you had to screw and unscrew to get into your cargo space would no longer line up correctly, which was pretty annoying. The last straw was when we bought a new bike for my daughter this year, and she is now large enough for an adult size frame — we got it home to discover that there is basically no way to get it on the Thule rack because we could not maneuver it down the bars over the bulky cradles — I mention this in case someone is looking at this rack who has the same problem with a Thule.

This rack was easy to assemble (did it myself in 15 minutes while nominally supervising 3 children) and attach to the car. It is light enough that the process of aligning it into the hitch and attaching it was much simpler than with heavier racks

I am impressed with the quality of the build, everything is solid and will withstand road weather conditions. It was a bit tricky to fit my kids’ bikes on the rack, but we made it happen (first time was the hardest to load, by far). Once on the rack, everything was rock-solid; no worries about things shifting around. You could add a strap to prevent wheels/pedals from moving in transit, but I found additional straps unnecessary. The tie-down straps hold tight and are easy to operate when putting bikes on and taking them off. The twisting “seats” where the bikes sit are a nice feature; they give you room to get bikes on as well as some flexibility for hard-to-fit bikes. They are make of hard rubber to prevent damage to the bikes. The two arms are spread out wide to provide stability (good), but that makes little bikes or bikes without a horizontal crossbar a challenge (not so good). This is the first bike rack I have owned. I did some searching and could not really find a big difference between this Allen rack for a little over 100 bucks and others in the 200-300 dollar range. When I opened the box I noted the durable construction and could not wait to mount it on the SUV. It held up to all expectations. The fold down features are nice. You could get a locking hitch pin but the bolt that comes with it screws down tight and it would be difficult to steal the thing. Someone would need wrenches or a socket set to pull of the heist. The straps pull down tight. I had no problem with hauling the bikes. To reduce sway I just used bungee cords to hold the bikes stable. Can’t beat the price, definite value for the money.

I just bought this rack last week after reading reviews for about all of them. This one caught my eye since it came from Amazon. I don’t know how they did it, but it was delivered the next evening! Quickest I have received anything! Other people have said they had mounting issue but for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, there was no problem at all.

It only took about 10 minutes out of the box and on the Jeep. Like other buyers have said, the downside (kind of) is the fact that it is a fixed bolt that mounts to the hitch, so you have to use a socket and wrench to put on/take off each time. So dependnig on how you are going to use it, that is good (hard to steal) or time consuming to take off each time. We are going to get the locking bolt since we take it off each time we are done
