For small-framed mtb’s (17″ & under) the stays are not long enough to level the rack, at least on our old rockhoppers, but I had it installed in about 30 minutes and it appears to be sturdy enough for our needs. 55# capapcity would be pushing it, IMHO; the thin metal stays will have to prove themselves worthy. I’ll most likely replace them with some fabricated aluminum bar stock for my own peace of mind and to get the rack level. I picked this configuaration to get the bags back on the small frame, away from the pedals and it looks like this rack will do exactly that. Worth the price, but the included hardware doesn’t appear to be stainless steel.

The rack has three uprights as shown – the rear one has a curl at the bottom. What is not shown is that the FRONT upright ALSO has that same curve. This curve is in the way of the rear frame triangle for a lot of bikes. I contemplated returning the rack, but decided that dremeling off that curl was worth it. I’m pretty happy with the resulting fit, and I will apply a bit of paint to cover the bare metal.

The hardware mounting kit includes:
- 6 bolts
- 6 nylon locknuts
- 2 long metal brackets with 90 degree bend (meant to be bent and attached to upper frame mounts for rack)
- 1 flat mount (for attaching to a single-hole?)
- 2 rubber-coated brackets for attaching to narrow tubes when mounting holes are not available

This rack didn’t fit my bike properly, the directions were not clear as to how to install it, and it seemed like there were some screws that were missing. The directions said there should have been 2 different size screws, and there was only one size screws. We could not figure out how to mount the brackets that stabilized it, and guessed on most of it. It’s finally sturdy on my bike, but it took us over 2 hours, finger scrapes, and a headache to get this thing on.

V. Gage

I put this rack on Gary Fisher Tiburon hybrid bike. This rack is strong, light, easy to install, it’s not an eyesore and easily carries the weight I have asked it to. For the price, I was ecstatic about the quality of this rack. Highly recommended for those looking for a rack for a grocery run, an overnight camping trip, or a daily commute.
