A basic pedal wrench, try removing pedals without one, and you’ll see why you need one, this was cheap enough to add to the tool box.

I refurbish about 2 Vintage English 3-speed bikes a month. They quit making 3-speeds in Nottingham in the late 70′s and most of the ones I restore are much older than that. I’ve had no major issues getting the pedals off of any of them with the Avenir wrench even when they were REALLY tight. I’ve used my wrench dozens of times and I can see that it is beginning to get a little wear from some of the tougher pedals that tried to put up a fight. The punishment has only started taking its toll on my wrench. The rate it is going I should be able to get a couple dozen more rough/tight pedals changes on it before I’ll have to think about getting another pedal wrench.
I doubt that the Park version would fare much better and at twice the price I’m fairly certain I’ll be buying another from Avenir.
