Avenir Excursion Large Panniers (1 700 Cubic Inches total) – Reviews
I looked at a number of packs at my local bike shop as well as online and these seemed to offer the best value for the features; I have not been disappointed. I used to use the bags to commute to work several days a week (25 mile round trip) and they easily carried my breakfast/lunch, work items and gym clothes (unfortunately I moved to a new area that is much less bike-friendly and am currently not biking to work). They are very light weight but appear to be strong and well made. I particularly like the clip feature on the bag that attaches to the bike rack. Between the sturdy clips and the bungee hooks, I never worry about the bags popping off the bike when I hit a bump. They can be attached to each other for ease of carrying off the bike and they expand to hold a lot of cargo. There are also a variety of small side pockets that are very convenient for holding smaller items. You do need to take precautions in wet weather as the bag allows water to penetrate, but I simply enclos

These are great bags. I had a pair and they were stolen, and that is because they are fantastic…. Large size and have a cinge lock. I go to the grocery store and they hold all of my purchases. They are waterproof and keep things dry.
I would recommend them to anyone.

I took these bad boys on the C&O Canal for a three day 181 mile bike trip. They were packed full with gear and food, and where easy to get on/off the bike. The small pockets on the front/back were perfect for small tools, or keeping a spare inner tube. The tops were easy to secure, and adjustable to keep my load in place.
During the ride, I didn’t experience any rain, so I can’t say how weather proof they are, but they kept the dirt and mud from the trail out, and that’s all that mattered to me.
I also had a trailer with me, since you can’t fit everything into these bags.

They’re good, but I agree with another reviewer on here who said they will hit your heel. I have mine set back as far as possible on my rear rack and sometimes I’ll still feel one of the side pockets against my heel. It’s very annoying, and I don’t have that large of feet. I’m a mens 11.5 shoe size (my name is not Kathleen, I’m here son) and my bike is a 58cm touring bike (long frame). So I was surprised when the bags hit my heel, but if I don’t pack the side pockets that face the front of the bike then my heel won’t rub, problem solved, however I lose some storage room.
The attachment system is good, but sometimes I feel like the hooks aren’t supporting the weight evenly. There are three hooks on the bag that hang on the bike rack. The center hook has a clip, while the other two hooks do not. The center clip for whatever reason seems to be a little higher than the hooks on each side, thus, the weight is mostly on the center clip (which is made of plastic). The system has not failed
