Although the rack is light and the clamp is sturdy, the side bars were too short to fit my panniers. When my panniers were full the bags sloped inwards and hit my spokes. I liked the product, but the bars were just too short.

I originally bought a Schwinn seat post mounted rear rack that had a whole you slipped the seat post through, and two bolts to tighten it. The problem was the hole was too big. It came with three rubber shims, but using more than one made it impossible to insert the seat post. And using just one was still not tight enough. Took it on a leisurely ride one weekend, and it was flopping from side to side with my bag struggling to hang on, rubbing up against the rear tire.

I’d seen this brand at Dick’s Sporting Goods, but without the side bars. That it had teeth to grip the seat post with, and the clamp mechanism could be made to be much smaller than the post diameter, I was sure it would work out the best (aside from getting a fully mounted rack). I knew I’d want to use it for grocery trips, too, so seeing basically the exact same rack, just with side bars here on Amazon, I went ahead and placed my order last Sunday. I got the rack in Wednesday. And I was not disappointed. It mounts solid, and I currently have it clamped tight but not too tight, and I’m unable to nudge it without fairly significant force. I haven’t taken it for a ride with my bag yet (will be this coming Sunday), but as I was able to move the Schwinn rack with minimal force, I’m confident this will hold securely, and there’s always room to tighten even more if need be.
